Digital Solutions for One of the largest bill discounting exchanges

MSMEs constituted 95% of client base & client onboarding was happening conventionally with documents in hardcopies. With Covid, business literally stopped since units were shut down, no courier services were available. We constituted a core team comprising teams from Technology, Operations, Legal, compliances experts for devising a digital Onboarding solution with end-to-end delivery. Client-friendly digital onboarding solution was delivered within three months with eKYC, eStamping & Adhaar based eSign off. This became a game changer with client’s registrations increasing by 5X.

Strategic Planning

American Tower Corporation acquired a smaller Tower Company operating in eastern & north-eastern India with good strategic sites. One 40 mtr high tower on a hill in Shillong was catering to four cellular operators with microwave connectivity to 40 odd sites. Legacy tower became unsafe to operate & we needed to dismantle for a new tower to be put up. With a lot of persuasion of mobile operators, a window of 15 days was granted for dismantling, new tower erection & making the new tower ready for communication. It was a herculean task: micromanaging clients, managing new tower supplies, construction teams etc. The operations were restored within the 15 day-window. Being head of supply chain, I was managing the entire show.

Bihar Tower Installation

Bihar is well known for devastating floods caused by Himalayan rivers entering from Nepal; we had tower erection happening in North Bihar in river basins.

During the month of August, commitment to important clients became questionable. The foundations were completed with a lot of difficulty as construction material logistics became an issue due to submerged / damaged roads. The greatest challenge emerged with tower sites becoming islands & there was no way we could shift tower and genset to new sites.

For this operation, the age-old method of river transportation was deployed. Tower & dismantled machinery were shipped to site by boats, tractors and manual labour. Duly commissioned Tower sites were handed over to client satisfactorily within timelines. Being head of supply chain, I was responsible for entire logistics & construction agencies management.

Technological solution in tough terrain

While American Tower Corporation was setting its operations in India in 2008, we had to build a greenfield tower of 50 metre height in Distt. Karur of Tamil Nadu. I was the Program Director & In-charge. Due to rocky terrain we could not go down beyond 1 mtr depth while conventional foundation requires 2.5 to 3 mtr depth. Work came to halt & we explored on other methodologies & zeroed down to Rock anchoring foundation. The tower site was successfully built within record time & handed over to client with satisfaction. To this date this site is being considered a technological marvel.

Innovative solution to prevent plant shutdown

Led a team which devised a mechanical solution for replacement of vital machine online at excessive high pressure (This helped in Urea plant shutdown & saved production loss of more than Rs 2 Crores).
